Ministry of Communications
In working towards improving the budgetary
system, the Ministry of Finance is holding National Budget Roadshows
2008/2009. Saturday’s roadshows were held for the Ministry of Industry
and Primary Resources and the Ministry of Communications. Among those
present were the Permanent Secretaries at both ministries.
Before his briefing on the budget, the
Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Finance, Awang Haji Bahrin bin
Abdullah touched on the importance of economising, as the country is
relying too much on revenue fast depleting resources of oil and gas. He
urged all departments to ensure that government revenue is collected on
time and to avoid overdue collection. Meanwhile, the budgetary briefing
delivered by the Acting Director of Budget, Awang Haji Nazmi bin Haji
Mohamad touched on the objective of the national budget. It makes the
government expenditure an important element toward generating a
sustainable economic growth, especially at a time when the country’s
economy is becoming more public-sector driven. Awang Haji Nazmi also
spoke on budget preparation issues as well as current issues and
improvement measures that have been and will be implemented. With the
roadshow, the Ministry of Finance hopes the management of the government
budget can be further upgraded for the continued development of the
nation.
