His Majesty and Jordanian King witness jungle
warfare manouvre in Ulu Temburong
His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah
Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam,
Minister of Defence and Supreme Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed
Forces and His Majesty King Abdullah the Second Wednesday consented to
visit the Special Force Regiment of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces in Ulu
Temburong.
His Majesty King Abdullah the Second were
greeted upon arrival at the Royal Brunei Air Force Base in Rimba by His
Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam. Both Their
Majesties then consented to proceed to ‘Bilik Layang-Layang’ to hear a
briefing on Aircraft Safety. Prior to departure for the Temburong
District, ‘doa selamat’ was read by the Head of ABDB Religious
Department, Air Lieutenant Colonel Haji Abdu’r Rahim bin Haji Abdul
Karim.
Their Majesties were welcomed on arrival at
the TEM 204 A landing site by the Deputy Minister of Defence, Retired
Colonel Pehin Dato Seri Paduka Haji Mohammad Yasmin and the Commanding
Officer of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces, Major General Pehin Dato
Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi. Following which, both Their Majesties
watched a demonstration of ‘silat’, a Malay traditional self defence
tactics, by two personnel of the Special Force Regiment trained in the
art. In his welcoming address, the Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed
Forces amongst other matters elaborated on the jungle warfare training
site that began operation on the 11th of January this year. Their
Majesties consented to witness a demonstration on jungle warfare and
heard a briefing relating to the demonstration by Commanding Officer of
the Special Force Regiment, Colonel Haji Harith bin Haji Abdul Karim.
The demonstration among other things included
jungle warfare techniques, an ambush using live ammunitions, self
defence, scaling down a helicopter, the making of and setting up booby
trap, sniper shooting, river assault and target shooting with various
weapons. Their Majesties consented to view an exhibition and a
demonstration on SFR the Jungle Warfare Training Area.
Both Their Majesties also showed their
prowess at close range target shooting using pistol. His Majesty King
Abdullah was bestowed the RPK insignia and honorary beret of the Royal
Brunei Armed Forces in 2006.
From Temburong District, His Majesty Sultan
Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan
of Brunei Darussalam and His Majesty King Abdullah the Second, consented
to witness a military maritime demonstration around the waters of Pulau
Baru-Baru.
Upon arrival at the Pulau Baru-Baru Task
Platoon Headquarters, His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of
Brunei Darussalam and His Majesty the King of Jordan, were welcomed by
the Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces, Major General Pehin Dato
Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi and Commander of the Land Forces, Colonel
Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Rosli bin Pengiran Haji Chuchu. A briefing
about Pulau Baru-Baru was delivered by the Land Forces Commander.
Their Majesties then consented to take a 5
minute walk to the Pulau Baru-Baru jetty to witness a military maritime
demonstration by the Special Forces Regiment. Before that, a briefing
on the Phase 2 of the Military Maritime Special Forces Regiment was
delivered by the Deputy Commanding Officer of the Special Forces
Regiment, Major Mohammad Rizal. The two Monarchs then witnessed a
military maritime demonstration. The 45 minute display was to test the
capability of the Special Forces in performing the Bundle Drop,
Abseiling, Evacuation and dropping of the frogmen divers from a
helicopter.
Afterwards, Their Majesties consented to
receive souvenirs from the Royal Brunei Armed Forces presented by the
Commanding Officer of the Special Forces Regiment, Colonel Haji Harith.
Their Majesties then consented to proceed to a midday luncheon.
After the luncheon, the two Monarchs
consented to receive souvenirs and sign the visitor’s parchment. In
2006, His Majesty the King of Jordan was presented with the Special
Combat Squadron, SCS Honorary Badge by His Majesty the Sultan and Yang
Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam.
