Tithes from commercial businesses hand
over to Brunei Islamic Religious Council
The Brunei Islamic Religious Council as the
highest Islamic Executive Body in the country is responsible for
managing and carrying out the collection and distribution of tithes,
based on the regulations under the Islamic Religious Council and Kadhi
Court Act on Tithes.
Last year, the Islamic Religious Council
received collection of tithes on property amounting to $11,182,416.55.
From the amount, a sum of $918,103.33 was received from 33 business
companies in the country. Up to April this year only, the Islamic
Religious Council collected property tithes amounting to $498,444.42.
From the total, $65,993.15 was received from 13 companies.
One of the Islamic Financial Institutions in
the country, Takaful IBB Berhad, handed over tithes from business
totalling $687,721.12 to the Brunei Islamic Council. The tithes were
handed over to the Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs, Pehin Dato
Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin, by the Syariah High Court
Judge, Dato Seri Setia Haji Metussin bin Haji Baki, a member of Takaful
IBB Berhad’s Board of Directors and Acting Managing Director.
