Friday sermon touches issue on youth being too freely and behave immorally in public

The people are reminded not to neglect their religious obligations, especially the ‘Solat’ or daily prayers during the current celebrations.  The ‘Khutbah’ or Friday sermon says the umat also shouldn’t forget their responsibilities and the trust placed on them.  The sermon also advises students not to neglect their studies.  Prayer leaders say parents should monitor their children during the festive season, and not let them move around and mingle too freely.

The sermon criticises that some youths today have become permissive and do not hesitate to behave immorally in public.  They could be seen at malls wearing immodest clothes and sporting colourful dyed hair.  The sermon expresses sadness that some parents let the adolescents mingle without restrain, living together and behaving intimately with disregard to their parents.  Prayer leaders also lamented that such immoral behaviour occur not only at public places but at schools as well.  This includes smoking, extortion, misuse of drugs, vandalism, public show of affection and even having illicit relations.
