Breast feeding symposium for first time mothers

A symposium on the benefits of mother’s milk has been held at the Health Promotion Centre in Berakas.  Those taking part at the one-day seminar were briefed on the importance of mother’s milk and shown the correct techniques for feeding infants.  Babies aged up to six months should be fed exclusively on mother’s milk and not to be fed with solid food.

The Senior Nursing Officer at the Nursing Health Community Services, Dayang Hajah Meriah binti Pengarah Haji Buntar told RTB that among factors why working mums don’t breastfeed in Brunei is because the practice isn’t supported in the workplace.  She said nursing rooms should be provided for mothers to take care of their infants once they returned to work.
